Librarians have been pioneers in adapting themselves to new technologies. Abstract : M mobile learning is learning of any knowledge using portable technologies like mobile phones iPods and PDA’s since they have more processing power and more interesting applications than were commonly available on desktop machines a decade ago. We must consider how mobile learning can be used to provide learners with better opportunities and enhanced learning outcomes. This article discusses about the basic information about m learning; differentiation between e learning and m learning; the four R’s of m learning; predicts some characteristics of the future learning environment; advantages disadvantages of m learning ; finally a glimpse of future is provided including hypothetical examples.
A librarian or information professional must be able to actively participate in the
educational process rather than gathering information and disseminate it to the public
through workshops, orientations, training etc. They must ensure that there is effective
and efficient flow of information from the generators to users of information in the digital
environment. This is a complex communication chain with libraries and information
systems playing an important, even critical role. Information professional must be able to address the changing and challenging environment for libraries and information systems and services in the digital age with an emphasis on examining contemporary problems, advances and solutions.
Digital information is changing the role of librarians from a person who students ask for assistance in finding information in a place called a library to someone who needs to provide services and instructions regardless of place, time or format.
